I've got an old 233MHz PC in the basement serving up a few hundred gigs of backup storage. It may not be the fastest thing in the world, but it works. And it's alot cheaper than any other NAS I've seen out there.
I'll be giving NeoOffice/J a try so I can draw out my home network diagram. I got some clipart from Cisco from someone's web site that looks like it includes all major pieces on the network.
I'm still recovering from the lightning strike to the house. I found that one of my USB drives no longer works on USB. The Firewire side works, so I'll suck the data off and probably get rid of the enclosure. It'll probably go dead soon anyway. It's copying over to my NASLite server as I type this!
